The old bromide that promises you can't get a computer virus by looking at an image file crumbled a bit further Tuesday when Microsoft announced a critical vulnerability in its software's handling of the ubiquitous JPEG graphics format.
The security hole is a buffer overflow that potentially allows an attacker to craft a special JPEG file that would take control of a victim's machine when the user views it through Internet Explorer, Outlook, Word, and other programs. The poisoned picture could be displayed on a website, sent in email, or circulated on a P2P network.

Half-Life 2 pre-loading begins to Steam account holders. Over the coming days, those who have selected the pre-loading option will have encrypted Half-Life 2 files delivered to their PC. No purchase is required to pre-load HL2, but is required to activate the game. Purchase options will be released soon. Then, the moment the game is made available, those who have pre-loaded and purchased Half-Life 2 via Steam will be authenticated and ready to start playing.

Oh yes its happened again, The player stats have become stagnant. So we felt it was about time for another points reset to keep things fresh.
All player data has been purged from the HLStats database. Which means all of your rankings have been removed from the -=[BaF]=- DMC and CTF sections plus Fireballs server data has been cleared as well. The CTF page was removed from the stats as we do not currently run a server for that game and the Hookmod server now has its own separate rankings.
Jump on a Server and have some fun.
Remember every frag counts :)

Starting July 26th the shutdown of the WON authentication servers will begin. This process will be completed on July 31st. This means players will no longer be able to access Internet features of Valve games, such as Counter-Strike 1.5, using the WON authentication servers. Users can continue using Valve games on the Steam service by downloading the Steam installer and setting up a Steam account. For more information visit www.steampowered.com. Counter-Strike 1.5 players will be upgraded to Counter-Strike 1.6 free of charge through Steam.

A new version of Metamod has been released: 1.17.1. Notable changes in this version are listed below.
- Additional entities for DoD 1.1, Sven Coop 3.0, Digital Paintball 2.1, The Specialits Beta 2.1, StargateTC Beta 1.1, International Soccer Online 3.0, Firearms 2.9
- Added MOD recognition and entities for Hostile Intent 1.1, Natural Selection Beta 3.0, Rocket Crowbar 2, Counter-Strike:Condition Zero.
- Added MOD recognition for CS13.
- On Windows Steam servers, extract the gamedll file from the cache file if it is missing in the dlls directory.
